Drone Breach at Ben Gurion Airport Sparks Ban Debate

A civilian drone entered the restricted airspace of Ben Gurion Airport on Wednesday morning, forcing authorities to suspend all takeoffs and landings during peak travel hours. In response to the breach, Moshe Ben Zaken, the Director General of the Transportation Ministry, ordered a special review and investigation to determine how the drone bypassed security at the strategic site.

The incident coincides with deliberations within the Security Cabinet of Israel regarding a proposed nationwide ban on civilian drone flights. Defense officials suggested the measure as part of security preparations for a potential confrontation with Iran.

Industry leaders have criticized the proposal. Pini Yungman, president of the air command-and-control company TSG, argued that a ban would be impossible to enforce because millions of drones are operated across the country, the majority of which are flown by children.
