Meta and Alphabet Launch Massive Equity Offerings for AI

Meta Platforms and Alphabet are initiating massive secondary equity offerings to fund hyperscaler capital expenditures projected to reach 800 billion dollars in 2026.

Meta Platforms is planning a 100 billion dollar secondary offering, primarily consisting of non-voting shares, to offset 92 billion dollars in losses related to the Metaverse and fund expanding infrastructure. Alphabet Inc. is also conducting major secondary equity offerings as part of a broader trend among technology hyperscalers to increase equity supply to the market.

These moves come as total capital expenditures for hyperscalers are projected to reach 800 billion dollars in 2026. The scale of these investments has pushed debt issuance and off-balance sheet obligations for the five largest hyperscalers to 3 trillion dollars, creating significant pressure on credit markets.

Financial projections indicate that most of these companies will experience negative free cash flow due to the intensity of their spending. Microsoft is the only hyperscaler among the group projected to maintain positive free cash flow despite the high cost of these capital expenditures.
