Economic affordability and the cost of living dominate the fourth day of the Quebec election campaign. Several parties have introduced competing measures to address housing costs, with the Quebec Liberal Party proposing caps on rents and service fees for seniors in privately managed homes, while Québec solidaire is calling for a rent cap for all tenants.
Other parties are targeting different economic levers. The Quebec Conservatives are expected to announce the abolition of sales tax on used goods. In contrast, the Parti Québécois is shifting its focus toward the protection of the French language.
The governing Coalition Avenir Québec has released a fiscal plan that projects an annual deficit of approximately $2 billion until 2031. The party aims to reach a balanced budget by 2029-2030 by generating $6 billion in revenue.
