Davido Alleges Security Blockade During Osun Governorship Election

Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, known as Davido, alleged on August 15, 2026, that soldiers attempted to prevent him from entering Osun State. The singer, who campaigned for his uncle, incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, asserted on X that every Nigerian citizen possesses the right to freedom of movement.

These claims coincided with a governorship election in Osun State. The Nigeria Police Force had implemented a state-wide movement restriction from midnight on August 14 until 6:00 p.m. on August 15 to ensure a peaceful vote. Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad dismissed the singer's claims as dramatic, stating that the restrictions were standard security measures and not a targeted effort to block Adeleke.

Simultaneously, the Adeleke Campaign Council reported that armed security personnel in more than 10 black Hilux vehicles surrounded and sealed off the residence of Adewale Egbedun, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly. Campaign spokesperson Pelumi Olajengbesi stated that the council could not verify if the operation was for security or an official action, noting that police officials did not answer calls for clarification. The council urged security agencies to avoid intimidating voters and demanded an official explanation for the movement restrictions.
