UK and India Expand Trade Under New Economic Agreement
The United Kingdom and India are increasing bilateral trade and investment following the signing of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement.
The Government of the United Kingdom and the Government of India are expanding their economic partnership following the July signing of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). The deal aims to increase annual bilateral trade by £25.5 billion by 2040, focusing on technology, manufacturing, professional services, and clean energy.
Since the agreement was signed, the two nations have announced nearly £12 billion in trade and investment deals. Specific commercial outcomes include the tariff-free import of Scottish salmon via Bakkafrost Scotland and the introduction of biodegradable milk pouches from Polymateria into the Indian market. These efforts complement the broader UK-India Vision 2035.
The partnership extends into education and regional diplomacy. The University of Liverpool has established a campus in Bengaluru to provide British higher education to Indian students. Additionally, a delegation consisting of seven mayors from northern England and more than 100 businesses is currently visiting India to identify further investment opportunities.
