TotalEnergies Restarts Satorp Refinery After Iranian Airstrikes
TotalEnergies resumed operations at the Satorp refinery in Saudi Arabia on April 14 after Iranian airstrikes damaged three units on April 8.
TotalEnergies announced that the Satorp refinery in Saudi Arabia resumed operations on April 14, 2026, following a strategic safety shutdown. The facility was closed after Iranian airstrikes on April 8 damaged three specific units at the site, prompting a full operational pause to assess the damage and ensure personnel safety.
The refinery is a joint venture between the French energy company and the Saudi Arabian Oil Company, also known as Aramco. Once safety protocols were satisfied and the extent of the damage was evaluated, the companies restarted the undamaged units. This recovery allows the facility to return to a production capacity of 230,000 barrels per day.
The restart marks a critical step in stabilizing regional oil supply after the targeted attacks. While the specific damage to the three affected units remains a point of technical repair, the ability to operate at a high capacity mitigates some of the immediate market volatility caused by the escalation of the Iran-Gulf conflict. The event highlights the continuing vulnerability of critical energy infrastructure to state-led aerial campaigns in the region.
