UK Homebuilder Shares Drop After Your First Home Budget
Chancellor John Healey announced the Your First Home program, triggering a share price drop for UK homebuilders due to lower funding than previous schemes.
Shares in the largest homebuilders in the United Kingdom fell on Wednesday following a Budget statement delivered by John Healey. The FTSE 350 Household Goods and Home Construction Index dropped as much as 6.49% after the government detailed the Your First Home program.
The new policy provides an initial 4.7 billion pounds in equity loans to first-time buyers. This funding level represents less than 20% of the total lending provided under the previous government's Help to Buy scheme. Investors reacted negatively to the scale of the support, viewing the funding as significantly lower than the reach of the prior program.
