Palestinian Boy Injured by Hamas Rocket Seeks Medical Funding
The family of Kinaan Dadou seeks $250,000 for surgery in Turkey after a Hamas rocket left the Palestinian boy in a vegetative state.
A Palestinian boy, Kinaan Dadou, remains in a persistent vegetative state after being struck by shrapnel from a Hamas rocket on October 7, 2023. The rocket was aimed at the Israeli settlement of Efrat but missed its target, landing instead near the family home in Um Rukbeh, West Bank.
Three years after the incident, the family is attempting to raise $250,000 to fund a recovery program and surgery in Turkey. Specialists indicate that this treatment could improve the boy's condition, but the family reports they are caught in a jurisdictional vacuum regarding medical costs.
The Palestinian Authority, which is responsible for healthcare in Area C, has allegedly refused further specialist care and provided inconsistent medication. Meanwhile, Israeli authorities told the family's lawyer that the injury occurred outside their jurisdiction, despite Israel maintaining military rule over the area. The family's financial distress has been compounded by the Israeli government's decision to stop issuing work permits to most Palestinians in the West Bank following the October 7 attacks.
