Taiwan Taiex Index Hits Record High on AI Demand
Taiwan's Taiex index reached a record closing high of 48,157.29 as semiconductor and AI-driven technology stocks surged.
The Taiex index closed at a record high of 48,157.29, marking a 0.75% increase driven by strong performance in the semiconductor and circuit manufacturing sectors. The rally was led by key technology firms, including TSMC, which rose 1.6%, and Foxconn, which added 1.2%. MediaTek also contributed to the gain by reaching a new high.
This surge aligns with record highs on the Nasdaq, reflecting global investor enthusiasm for artificial intelligence and technology hardware. The growth in these sectors has prompted Barclays to raise its GDP growth forecasts for Taiwan to 12% for the current year and 5% for next year, citing the strength of semiconductor exports.
