Tata Trusts Begins Search for New Tata Sons Chairman

Tata Trusts has initiated the selection process for a new Tata Sons chairman after N Chandrasekaran announced he will not seek reappointment in February 2027.

The Sir Dorabji Tata Trust has passed a resolution to establish a selection committee to recommend a successor for the chairman of Tata Sons. This move follows the announcement by current chairman N Chandrasekaran that he will not seek reappointment when his term expires on February 20, 2027. The transition comes amid reported tensions between Chandrasekaran and Tata Trusts chairman Noel Tata over business policies, as well as board disagreements regarding Chandrasekaran's continuation.

Legal complications are currently delaying the formalization of the selection committee. Under the company's Articles of Association, a five-member committee must be formed, requiring joint participation from both the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the Sir Ratan Tata Trust. However, the Sir Ratan Tata Trust is currently under a restraining order from the Maharashtra charity commissioner, meaning the committee cannot legally proceed until the ban is lifted.

Industry reports suggest the next chairman will likely be a Tata insider. Tata Steel managing director TV Narendran has been identified as a potential candidate to lead the holding company.
