WhatsApp Launches Guest Calling for Non-Account Holders
WhatsApp introduced a guest calling feature allowing people without accounts to join encrypted voice and video calls via invitation links.
WhatsApp launched a guest calling feature that enables individuals without an account or the application to join one-to-one and group calls. Account holders can generate a call link through the Calls tab and share it with guests, who join via a computer web browser after entering their name.
These calls support up to 32 participants and are free and end-to-end encrypted with no time limits. Guests have access to screen sharing, emoji reactions, and a hand-raising function. To ensure security, guests must wait in a virtual waiting room for host approval and are prohibited from seeing other participants' phone numbers, sending messages, or adding new people to the call.
Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, also announced plans to launch Google and Outlook calendar integrations later this year. These integrations will utilize a plugin to allow users to include WhatsApp call links directly within calendar invitations.
