Uber Agrees to Acquire Delivery Hero for $14.8 Billion

Uber Technologies will acquire Delivery Hero for $14.8 billion, expanding its food-delivery network to 99 markets while divesting 14 overlapping operations to satisfy antitrust regulators.

Uber Technologies, Inc. agreed to acquire Germany-based Delivery Hero on July 16, 2026, in a cash deal valued at approximately $14.8 billion. The acquisition values Delivery Hero at 41.50 euros per share, a significant increase from Uber's initial May bid of 33 euros. The transaction will expand the Uber Eats network from 50 to 99 markets across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America, creating the largest food-delivery group outside of China.

To mitigate antitrust scrutiny, Delivery Hero will sell its operations in 14 overlapping markets—including the Turkish platform Yemeksepeti and foodora in Austria—to New York-based SSW Partners for approximately 1.4 billion euros ($1.6 billion). This divestiture is conditional on the closing of the main takeover. Major shareholder Prosus has already committed to tender its nearly 17 percent stake, which, combined with Uber's existing holdings, would bring its total economic interest to approximately 53 percent.

Uber has pledged to invest 2 billion euros in Germany through 2031 and maintain Delivery Hero's Berlin headquarters and workforce until at least 2029. The deal requires a minimum acceptance threshold of 50 percent plus one share and is expected to close in the second half of 2027.
