Aldi Pledges Record £900 Million Investment for 2027 Expansion
Aldi will invest £900 million in 2027 to open 40 new stores and upgrade distribution networks despite a slight dip in operating profits.
Aldi has pledged a record £900 million investment for 2027 to open 40 new stores and upgrade its warehouse and distribution network. The expansion comes as the company aims to reach a total of 1,500 UK stores to provide affordable grocery options to underserved communities. The chain is currently in the process of opening 30 new stores over a 10-week period, including sites in Dumbarton, Newport, and Willesden.
Financial reports show the company achieved a record annual turnover of £19 billion, though operating profits for 2025 dipped 1% to £432.9 million. This decline was driven by rising wage bills and price investments that offset a 5% increase in sales. To support consumers, the company is continuing price cuts leading up to Christmas, following a £340 million price reduction campaign earlier this year.
Chief Executive Giles Hurley stated that the company is working to make food more affordable by cutting prices on essentials and signing long-term supplier agreements to increase home-grown production. Hurley noted that recent droughts and overseas events have demonstrated the fragility of the food system, making food security a long-term national priority.
