Iran Launches Missile and Drone Strikes Against Kurdish Groups in Iraq

The Military of Iran launched a series of missile and drone strikes against Iranian Kurdish opposition groups in northern Iraq on August 11 and 12, 2026. The attacks targeted the headquarters and fighters of the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan and the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, specifically in the Duli Alan region and the Alana Valley of Erbil province.

On Tuesday, a missile struck the Komala Party headquarters in Duli Alan. Party spokesperson Amjad Hussein Panahi reported that members avoided casualties by taking shelter. The party claims it has been targeted by more than 102 missiles and drones since the start of the US-Israeli war against Iran, including a strike in the Alana Valley two weeks prior that wounded six members.

On Wednesday, Iran expanded the barrage with further missile and drone strikes in the Alana Valley. While no casualties were reported from this second wave, four Iranian drones crashed in the districts of Soran, Khalifan, and Harir. One drone struck a residential house in Soran, and another ignited a grass fire on Mount Bani Harir.

These escalations followed statements from Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, who claimed on Tuesday that Iran had emerged as a tough and invincible power following its conflict with the United States and Israel.
