Apple Plans iPhone 18 Pro and Foldable Ultra Launch

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro series and a new foldable iPhone Ultra during a September 9 keynote event.

The Apple Inc. is preparing to launch the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max in September 2026, likely during a keynote event on September 9. The flagship models will feature the A20 Pro chip, the first built on TSMC's 2nm process, utilizing Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module packaging for enhanced AI performance and thermal efficiency. Other key hardware upgrades include a 48-megapixel main camera with a mechanical variable aperture for depth-of-field control and a proprietary C2 cellular modem intended to reduce reliance on Qualcomm, though U.S. models may still use Qualcomm hardware for millimeter-wave 5G.

Design reports have fluctuated, with some sources claiming the Dynamic Island will shrink by 35% due to under-display Face ID components, while others suggest Apple will reuse iPhone 17 Pro chassis molds. The Pro Max model is rumored to be the heaviest iPhone to date, weighing over 240 grams to accommodate a battery capacity reaching up to 5,567mAh. A new signature color palette is expected, featuring a "Dark Cherry" or burgundy finish alongside light blue, silver, and dark gray.

Alongside the Pro series, Apple is expected to debut its first foldable device, the iPhone Ultra, featuring a 7.8-inch crease-free OLED display and a liquid metal hinge. While the Pro models may launch in September, standard iPhone 18 and 18e models are reportedly delayed until spring 2027. Pricing remains a point of contention among analysts, with estimates ranging from stable rates to a $200 increase, potentially starting the Pro at $1,299.
