BT Group Acquires TalkTalk to Prevent Service Collapse
BT Group acquired TalkTalk and PlatformX out of administration for £400 million to protect services for 2.5 million customers.
BT Group acquired TalkTalk Telecommunications Limited and PlatformX Communications Limited out of administration to prevent a widespread collapse of telecommunications services. The deal carries an estimated total cash impact of £400 million for fiscal year 2027 and was completed on a debt-free basis.
BT stepped in after a sale process for TalkTalk failed. Despite reporting £1.2 billion in revenue over the last 12 months, TalkTalk remained loss-making. The acquisition secures connectivity for 2.5 million customers, including 1.5 million retail clients and 1 million wholesale clients. These wholesale services support critical infrastructure across the defense, healthcare, and emergency services sectors.
BT expects a trading loss of £60 million for the remainder of the fiscal year. The acquired companies will operate separately while awaiting a regulatory review. Clive Selley will lead the stabilization and integration of the businesses, and Martijn Blanken has been appointed CEO of BT International.
