India Rejects OIC Communique on Jammu and Kashmir

The Government of India categorically rejected a Joint Communique issued by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir on September 23, 2026. The OIC group met in New York on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly, where it expressed concern over human rights and termed Indian counter-terrorism strikes inside Pakistan from May 2025 as unlawful.

India's Ministry of External Affairs dismissed the references as unwarranted and factually incorrect, asserting that the OIC has no locus standi to pronounce on matters strictly internal to India. New Delhi reiterated that the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral and inalienable parts of India. The ministry accused the OIC of providing a platform for Pakistan to spread fabricated and motivated propaganda, urging the bloc to instead counsel Pakistan to address terrorism emanating from its territories.

During the meeting, Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar urged OIC members to maintain a unified position and called for the reversal of Indian measures taken since August 5, 2019. Simultaneously, reports indicated growing unrest in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, where residents have protested inflation and internet shutdowns. India countered these diplomatic efforts by stating that the only unresolved issue is the illegal occupation of Indian territories by Pakistan.
