China New-Energy Vehicle Exports Surge 130 Percent
China exported 4.006 million new-energy vehicles between January and September 2026, marking a 130 percent year-on-year increase in global shipments.
China's new-energy vehicle (NEV) sector experienced significant growth in the first three quarters of 2026. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, NEV exports rose 130 percent year-on-year to 4.006 million units between January and September. During this period, domestic production reached 12.483 million units, while sales hit 12.472 million units, meaning NEVs now account for 53.6 percent of all new vehicles sold within China.
Industry officials report that the sector's competitive advantage has evolved from low pricing to systemic technological strengths in batteries, electric drives, and electric controls. This shift allows Chinese products to match international brands in specifications and price while gaining premium recognition from some consumers.
To maintain this momentum, the government launched the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30), which focuses on global expansion and breakthroughs in intelligent connected technologies. Data from the Ministry of Commerce shows that Chinese-made vehicles are now available in over 200 countries and regions, with manufacturing investments established in more than 80 countries.
