US Navy Sailors Brawl During Thailand Port Call
Two US sailors were restricted to the USS Abraham Lincoln after a drunken brawl in Pattaya during a port call following a record-breaking deployment.
Two American sailors from the USS Abraham Lincoln were restricted to their ship after engaging in a drunken brawl outside a bar in Pattaya, Thailand, early Thursday. Thai police responded to the fight around 1:30 a.m. in a nightlife district. Following coordination between the Pattaya Police Department and the ship's shore liaison group, the sailors were taken to a joint operations center and barred from further shore leave.
The United States Navy had granted the first shore leave for approximately 5,000 sailors and Marines after a 286-day deployment involving combat operations in the war against Iran. The deployment included a record 264 consecutive days at sea, which previously raised concerns regarding crew mental health and food shortages. While the Navy downplayed these issues, President Donald Trump stated the deployment was "not nearly long enough."
The USS Abraham Lincoln is currently docked at Laem Chabang port, while the USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. and USS Robert Smalls are docked at Sriracha and Map Ta Phut. The strike group is scheduled to depart Thailand this weekend to return to its home port in San Diego.
