Indian Military Prepares for Operation Sindoor 2.0
General Upendra Dwivedi announced that Indian forces are prepared for Operation Sindoor 2.0 despite a temporary cessation of hostilities with Pakistan.
Chief of Army Staff Upendra Dwivedi announced on May 30, 2026, that the Indian Armed Forces are fully prepared for a potential Operation Sindoor 2.0. Speaking at the 150th Passing Out Parade of the National Defence Academy in Pune, Dwivedi characterized the current state of affairs as a temporary cessation of hostilities rather than a complete ceasefire, asserting that the original Operation Sindoor remains ongoing.
Launched in May 2025 to destroy terror infrastructure in Pakistan following an attack in Pahalgam, Operation Sindoor established a benchmark for India's response to provocation. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi detailed the operation's maritime success, noting that the deployment of a Carrier Battle Group in the Arabian Sea forced the Pakistan Navy to remain confined to its ports. This aggressive posture crippled Pakistan's maritime economy by increasing shipping risks and insurance premiums.
General Dwivedi outlined a shift toward multi-domain warfare, introducing the Eagle on the Arm concept which mandates that every soldier be capable of operating drones. He also confirmed that the Chiefs of Staff Committee has submitted recommendations for military theatreisation to the government. This restructuring, currently under review by Rajnath Singh, aims to assign Service Chiefs responsibility for sustaining forces while theatre commanders oversee operational deployment, with implementation expected within two to three years.
