UK Agencies Issue Recalls for Salmonella and Undeclared Allergens
The Food Standards Agency and Norfolk Trading Standards ordered recalls of eggs, nuts, and snacks across multiple UK retailers due to salmonella and allergy risks.
The Food Standards Agency and Norfolk Trading Standards issued a series of food recalls and allergy warnings affecting several major UK retailers, including Tesco, M&S, Waitrose, and Home Bargains. The alerts cover a range of contamination and labeling issues, most notably salmonella risks and undeclared allergens.
Salmonella concerns triggered the recall of shell eggs produced by Yasensvit Ltd in Ukraine, as well as five Greencore products sold at Tesco and M&S containing contaminated pistachio nuts. The Food Standards Agency stated that eggs with the affected code "should be withdrawn from the market and recalled from consumers" and warned that "these eggs should not be consumed."
Other recalls focus on allergen labeling. Unilever is recalling Pot Noodle Piri Piri Chicken Flavour for undeclared milk, and Home Bargains is recalling Lambertz Christmas cookies because allergens were not listed in English. Additionally, Skinny Crunch Light Peanut Butter Bars were mistakenly packaged in Skinny Whip Toffee wrappers, creating a risk for those with peanut allergies. Norfolk Trading Standards advised consumers with coeliac disease or specific allergies not to eat the affected products.
Waitrose is also recalling tuna pâté, though this action stems from a use-by date labeling error rather than contamination.
