Belgium Consumer Confidence Drops to -7.0 in August

The National Bank of Belgium reports a decline in consumer sentiment to -7.0 in August due to deteriorating macroeconomic expectations and rising unemployment fears.

Consumer confidence in Belgium weakened during August, with the consumer sentiment index falling to -7.0 from -5.0 in July. The National Bank of Belgium attributed this decline primarily to deteriorating macroeconomic expectations.

Specific indicators show a sharp drop in the sub-index for the expected economic situation over the next twelve months, which fell to -32.0 from -27.0. Concerns regarding unemployment also increased, with the corresponding index rising from 14 to 16.

Households experienced a marginal decrease in saving capacity, which dropped to 22 from 23. While the outlook for personal financial situations over the coming year remained stable, it continues to be negative at -2.0.
