Kerala Assembly Urges India to Reform National Exam System

The Kerala Legislative Assembly passed a resolution on June 30, 2026, urging the Central government of India to implement comprehensive reforms to the national entrance examination system. Higher Education Minister Roji M. John moved the resolution, citing systemic failures in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and other major exams including CUET-UG, UGC-CSIR, SSC, RRB, and CBSE.

The resolution identifies question paper leaks, technical failures at examination centers, and evaluation irregularities as primary threats to transparency and fairness. It calls for criminal proceedings against malpractice networks and demands that the central government increase consultation with state governments regarding education policy.

BJP MLA V. Muraleedharan opposed the resolution, stating that the Central government has already acted decisively by establishing fast-track courts and conducting re-examinations. Simultaneously, the Rouse Avenue Court in New Delhi extended the custody of 10 individuals accused of involvement in a NEET-UG paper leak investigation currently being led by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
