Tennessee to Move Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway Signs After Veteran Protest

Tennessee officials are relocating signs designating a portion of State Route 386 as the Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway after Vietnam veterans objected to the site. The roadway is already known as Vietnam Veterans Boulevard, dedicated to 25 Sumner County service members who died in the Vietnam War. Veterans expressed anger that they were not consulted before the memorial for the late Turning Point USA co-founder was placed on ground honoring fallen soldiers.

Johnny Garrett, the State Representative who selected the original site, agreed to move the designation to Long Hollow Pike in Goodlettsville. Sumner County Commissioner Jeremy Mansfield coordinated the relocation efforts and criticized the lack of consultation with the veteran community.

Despite the agreement to move the signs, the Tennessee Department of Transportation stated it cannot relocate the signage without formal direction from the Tennessee General Assembly. Because the legislature is not currently in session, a vote to authorize the relocation may not occur until January.
