Iran Launches Missile Strikes Across Gulf and Jordan

A series of Iranian missile and drone attacks targeted multiple countries across the Gulf and Jordan on July 21, 2026, escalating a regional conflict. The strikes hit military installations and vital infrastructure in Kuwait, including oil facilities and desalination plants, prompting the activation of national warning sirens. In Qatar, the government condemned the attacks as a flagrant violation of national sovereignty and demanded compensation from Iran, citing violations of international law and UN Security Council Resolution 2817.

Iran also targeted U.S. bases and facilities in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan. These actions followed multiple waves of United States military strikes against Iranian sites over the preceding week, which the U.S. stated were intended to degrade Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Adding to the tension, Iran attacked the Kuwaiti tanker Kaifan in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, injuring several crew members.

In response to the tanker attack, the Government of Kuwait summoned Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Tootunchi to lodge a formal protest. Kuwait described the incident as a blatant attack and a violation of sovereignty. These hostilities persist despite a Pakistan-brokered peace memorandum signed in June. Meanwhile, Kuwait expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia by condemning Houthi militia statements regarding a maritime blockade in Yemen.
