Apple Nears $1 Billion Deal to Integrate Google Gemini

Apple Inc. is nearing a deal to pay Google approximately $1 billion per year to integrate the Gemini AI model into Siri. Expected to launch next spring, the partnership aims to provide Siri with advanced multimodal capabilities, such as the ability to draft emails, summarize articles, and better interpret complex user queries and emotions.

To maintain user privacy, Apple intends to utilize a hybrid system. This approach will combine Google's cloud-based AI features with on-device processing through the Apple Intelligence system.

This strategic move allows Apple to upgrade its digital assistant without the massive capital expenditures in AI infrastructure that have been required by competitors such as Meta, Microsoft, and Google.
