India's PLI Schemes Attract Over 2.4 Lakh Crore Investment

The Government of India reported that PLI schemes across 14 sectors generated 14.15 lakh jobs and attracted over 2.4 lakh crore in investments by March 2026.

The Government of India reported to the Lok Sabha that its Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes across 14 sectors attracted more than 2.4 lakh crore in actual investments and generated over 14.15 lakh direct and indirect jobs as of March 31, 2026. Supported by an approved outlay of 1.91 lakh crore, the initiatives enabled cumulative exports exceeding 15.2 lakh crore. High-efficiency solar PV modules saw the highest investment at 64,873 crore, while the food processing sector led in direct employment with 3.29 lakh jobs. In electronics, domestic manufacturing now accounts for 99.2% of mobile phones used in India.

Sector-specific data highlights diverse regional impacts. The PLI-Auto scheme, approved in September 2021 with a 25,938 crore budget, attracted 44,326 crore in investments and established 225 manufacturing units nationwide. Maharashtra leads this sector with 66 units, followed by Tamil Nadu with 38. The government has disbursed 2,386.36 crore in incentives to qualifying applicants who achieve a minimum Domestic Value Addition of 50 percent.

In the textiles sector, the scheme attracted 8,117.64 crore in investments from 170 companies, creating 33,427 jobs. While Gujarat attracted the highest total investment at 1,903.38 crore, Tamil Nadu emerged as the leading employment generator, accounting for approximately 24% of the textile jobs created. The Empowered Group of Secretaries continues to review implementation to rationalize guidelines and relax eligibility conditions.
