United States Prepares Large-Scale 250th Anniversary Celebrations
Communities across the United States are launching national and local festivities to commemorate the nation's semiquincentennial on July 4, 2026.
The United States is preparing to mark its 250th anniversary on July 4, 2026, with a series of national and local commemorations known as the semiquincentennial. Major events include the Wawa Welcome America celebration in Philadelphia, the Sail4th 250 tall ships flotilla in New York Harbor, and public exhibitions on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
Local festivities are scaling across the country. In North Carolina, Labor Commissioner Luke Farley and the North Carolina General Assembly are organizing the First in Freedom Parade in Raleigh. Other regional highlights include the Light and Liberty Over Lake Erie event in Pennsylvania, celebrations involving the Alabama Army National Guard in Daphne, and a Living History Fair in Lewistown, Montana. Additional activities span from mural projects in West Virginia to tree plantings in Kentucky and Revolutionary-era recreations in Massachusetts.
The National Constitution Center is using the milestone to promote a civic decade, urging citizens to renew habits of self-governance leading toward the future anniversaries of the Constitution and Bill of Rights. As part of these efforts, the center will host a Liberty Medal ceremony on July 3 to honor Pope Leo XIV for his commitment to religious liberty.
