Morocco Dismantles ISIS-Linked Cell and Arrests 10 Suspects

The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations arrested 10 suspects and foiled plots to attack public security sites across several Moroccan cities.

The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) dismantled a militant cell loyal to the Islamic State's Sahel branch on July 6, 2026. In coordinated raids across cities including Casablanca, Agadir, Tetouan, Taroudant, El Hajeb, Fquih Ben Salah, and Safi, Moroccan security forces arrested 10 suspects and foiled plots to attack public security and sensitive sites.

Authorities seized bladed weapons, military clothing, bomb-making instructions, and a vehicle modified for suicide bombing or ramming attacks. Investigators discovered a warehouse containing butane gas cylinders and nail-filled pressure cookers, stating the group's plans were in an "advanced stage of preparation" and that the suspects received direct operational instructions from the Islamic State's affiliate in the Sahel.

Following the announcement, the governments of Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, as well as the Arab Parliament, issued statements of solidarity. UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Arab Parliament President Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi praised the vigilance of Moroccan security services, condemning the plots as attempts to undermine the country's sovereignty.
