UK Supreme Court Hears Challenge to Palestine Action Ban
The Supreme Court of the United Kingdom begins a two-day hearing to determine the legality of the government's terrorist designation of Palestine Action.
The Supreme Court of the United Kingdom begins a two-day hearing on Wednesday to decide whether the government's ban on Palestine Action is legal. The pro-Palestinian direct-action group was designated a terrorist organization in July 2025 after the government accused it of orchestrating a nationwide campaign of criminal action and causing serious damage to property, including attacks on a Royal Air Force base.
Co-founder Huda Ammori is challenging the proscription, arguing the Home Office failed to follow its own criteria. The case reaches the highest court following conflicting lower court rulings; the High Court initially found the ban disproportionate and unlawful, but the Court of Appeal overturned that decision in June.
The ban makes membership or expression of support for the group a criminal offense punishable by up to 14 years in prison. Since the designation, over 4,000 people have been arrested for showing support for the group. The United States also designated Palestine Action as a terrorist group in August 2025.
