Nigerian Aviation Unions Issue Seven-Day Ultimatum Over Unpaid Levies

The Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria and the National Union of Air Transport Employees have issued a seven-day ultimatum to airline operators and other organizations to remit outstanding 5 per cent Ticket Sales Charges (TSC). This action follows a previous 14-day notice served on July 8 that expired on July 23 without compliance.

The TSC is a statutory levy collected on every ticket sold in Nigeria. These funds are intended for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority to distribute among aviation agencies for operational funding. The unions argue that the withholding of these charges starves critical agencies of necessary resources and jeopardizes employee welfare.

Labor leaders warned that the financial instability creates a security and safety risk for Nigeria's airspace. If the debts are not settled within the seven-day window, the unions threatened to launch nationwide picketing and industrial actions at the premises of defaulting organizations.
