Azerbaijan Expands Middle Corridor with US Project Support

At the 6th Caspian Business Forum in New York, Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, announced a series of infrastructure investments designed to increase the capacity of the Middle Corridor. Azerbaijan expects freight traffic to surpass 50 million tons as part of a broader effort to transform the South Caucasus into a zone of cooperation.

A central component of this expansion is the Zangezur Corridor project, specifically a 42-kilometer section located within Armenian territory. Hajiyev confirmed that partners from the United States are participating in the work on this specific stretch. Additionally, Azerbaijan is constructing a railway from Baku to Zangilan and the Armenian border, which is expected to be completed by mid-2026.

To support increased traffic, the government is expanding the Port of Baku, which currently possesses a cargo handling capacity of 25 million tonnes per year. Hajiyev invited European states and other international partners to participate in these efforts and to invest in Nakhichevan to further regional connectivity.
