Revolution Wind Project Reaches Full Commercial Operation

Ørsted and Skyborn Renewables completed the Revolution Wind offshore project, delivering electricity to Rhode Island and Connecticut to power 350,000 homes.

The Revolution Wind offshore energy project reached full commercial operation in October 2026, delivering electricity to the New England energy grid. Developed by Ørsted and Skyborn Renewables, the 704-megawatt farm consists of 65 turbines located approximately 15 nautical miles southeast of Point Judith, Rhode Island. The project provides 400 megawatts to Rhode Island and 304 megawatts to Connecticut, meeting roughly 5% of Connecticut's overall electricity demand.

The project, which cost between $6 billion and $6.2 billion, is capable of powering approximately 350,000 homes under 20-year fixed-price agreements. Connecticut customers are expected to save roughly $500 million annually starting in 2028 due to competitive pricing of approximately $99 per megawatt-hour.

Construction faced significant opposition from the Donald Trump administration, which issued stop-work orders claiming the turbines could threaten marine life and interfere with military radar. While Ørsted successfully blocked those orders in court, the United States Department of the Interior is currently seeking permission from a federal judge to rescind prior construction approvals.

Governor Ned Lamont described the operational project as a significant milestone for Connecticut's energy mix. Acting Commissioner Emma Cimino added that the project will save ratepayers in Connecticut and New England hundreds of millions of dollars a year on their electricity bills.
