Yair Golan to Sue Sara Netanyahu Over October 7 Claims

Opposition leader Yair Golan announced on Tuesday his intention to file a defamation lawsuit against Sara Netanyahu, the wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The legal action follows a Monday interview on Channel 14 in which Sara Netanyahu suggested Golan had prior knowledge of the October 7 Hamas attacks. She questioned how Golan, a former Major General, was already dressed and prepared at the front lines at an early hour while the prime minister had not yet been informed.

The Democrats Party of Israel condemned the remarks as slanderous and false, accusing Sara Netanyahu of spreading conspiracy theories to tarnish Golan's heroism. Gadi Eisenkot, Chairman of the Yashar Party and former army chief, described the allegations as a crazy treason conspiracy theory intended to stoke hatred and perpetuate the prime minister's rule. Golan denied the claims, stating he drove south around 8 a.m. on the day of the attack to rescue civilians.

While government spokesperson Eylon Levy stated the government categorically rejects suggestions that opposition figures were complicit in the attack, Sara Netanyahu declined to comment directly on betrayal theories, calling instead for a real commission of inquiry. Security officials told Haaretz there is no evidence supporting the claims. The dispute occurs amid high political polarization ahead of national elections scheduled for October 27.
