Gunmen Attack Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke's Convoy in Osogbo
Gunmen attacked the convoy of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke in Osogbo, though the governor's nephew disputed the nature of the incident.
Gunmen suspected to be hoodlums attacked the convoy of Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State, on Wednesday in Osogbo. The incident occurred after the governor visited the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, to present his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission following his August 15 re-election.
Attackers in an unregistered Sienna bus engaged in a gun battle with the governor's security detail for 12 to 15 minutes, causing panic among local residents and traders. Kolapo Alimi, the Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, confirmed the attack and stated that security personnel successfully repelled the assailants with no casualties recorded.
Singer David Adeleke, the governor's nephew, disputed the official account on X. He claimed the gunfire resulted from a separate fight outside the palace that was unrelated to the governor's entourage.
