India Cuts Industrial Gas Supplies After Qatar Production Halt

The Government of India reduced natural gas supplies to its industries to mitigate energy shortages following a production collapse in Qatar. This response follows drone attacks on QatarEnergy facilities in Ras Laffan Industrial City and Mesaieed Industrial City, forcing the world's largest LNG producer to cease operations.

The supply crisis is exacerbated by a standstill of LNG tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran threatened to target vessels in the region following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran that killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. These maritime disruptions caused European benchmark gas futures to spike approximately 50%.

The India Oil Ministry pledged to ensure energy availability, though the nation remains highly vulnerable. India relies on imports for 85% of its oil and nearly half of its natural gas, with a significant portion of these shipments routed through the contested Strait of Hormuz.
