Israeli Military Targets Lebanese Army and Infrastructure in South Lebanon

The Israeli military intensified artillery and airstrikes across southern Lebanon on August 6 and 7, 2026, specifically targeting the Tyre district. These operations included drone and aircraft strikes in Burj al-Shemali and Al-Mansouri, as well as the demolition of houses in Wadi al-Houjeir. In Al-Mansouri, Israeli forces deployed a stun grenade against a Lebanese Army bulldozer clearing roads for returning residents, causing minor injuries to one soldier. Israel stated the strikes in Al-Mansouri were retaliation for the deaths of two Israeli soldiers in an explosion on Wednesday.

Additional escalations included artillery shelling in Mays al-Jabal and the torching of a water station in Shaqra. In Aita al-Jabal, employees of the South Lebanon Water Establishment came under Israeli fire while repairing supplies. A separate drone strike in Tebnine killed one person and wounded 11 others, while other regional strikes wounded four people.

These military actions follow the failure of a seventh round of talks in Rome to agree on expanding pilot zones, specifically regarding Israeli withdrawals from Khiam and Bint Jbeil. The violence persists despite a June 26 framework agreement in Washington intended to restore Lebanese army control over the south. In response, Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri presented a 232-page report documenting Israeli violations of international humanitarian law to President Joseph Aoun.
