Rights Groups Label Israeli Strike Killing Lebanese Journalist War Crime

Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and Legal Agenda declared that an April 22, 2026, Israeli military strike in the village of al-Tiri was a war crime. The investigation concludes that the Military of Israel deliberately targeted journalist Amal Khalil and her colleague Zeinab Faraj, subsequently blocking Lebanese Red Cross and civil defense rescuers from reaching the site for several hours.

According to the reports, the military first hit a car carrying municipal officials before targeting the journalists' vehicle and bombing a building where they sought shelter. Medical evidence from Tebnine suggests Khalil may have survived for hours under the rubble but died because rescue crews were delayed by Israeli forces and attacked with stun grenades and gunfire.

The Military of Israel stated it regrets any harm caused to journalists, claiming the deaths occurred during operations to kill two Hezbollah operatives. In response, the rights organizations are calling for formal war crime investigations and an international arms embargo on Israel.
