YouTube and Deezer Launch New AI Music Transparency Tools

YouTube and Deezer are introducing labels and filters to identify or block AI-generated music following pressure from industry groups and user demand.

Major music platforms are implementing divergent strategies to manage the surge of generative AI content. YouTube began rolling out labels on Wednesday across its main platform and YouTube Music to identify songs where AI played a significant role in composition or vocals. The company will use internal detection tools and partner disclosures to ensure transparency, allowing listeners to tap labels for more information.

Simultaneously, the French streaming service Deezer announced a feature that allows users to filter out fully AI-generated music from search results. Scheduled for a worldwide launch by the end of 2026, the toggle responds to a November 2025 poll showing 45% of users wanted the option to hide AI content. Deezer reports that AI-generated tracks accounted for over 50% of daily uploads in July, though they represent only 1% to 3% of total streams. The company is also withholding royalties from AI tracks linked to streaming fraud, noting that 85% of streams on such content originate from bots.

These moves follow pressure from the Recording Industry Association of America and the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry. Other platforms have adopted varying policies: Spotify uses an AI Persona badge for non-human profiles, Apple Music plans to add Made by AI labels, Tidal has cut monetization for AI tracks, and Bandcamp has banned them entirely.
