Israel Strikes Southern Lebanon After Hezbollah Drone Attacks

The Israel Defense Forces conducted a series of airstrikes across southern Lebanon between August 26 and August 27, 2026, targeting Hezbollah infrastructure and weapon storage facilities. The operations focused on the Nabatiya area, including the al-Dabsheh region, the village of Qantara, and the outskirts of Srebbine. On August 27, Israeli warplanes used high-explosive missiles to strike the Ali al-Taher woodland on the eastern outskirts of Nabatieh al-Fawqa, with additional strikes reported between Zawtar al-Sharqiyah and Mayfadoun.

These military actions followed a period of heightened tension at the Ali Taher ridge, a strategic Hezbollah stronghold. Hezbollah launched two explosive drones at Israeli soldiers in the ridge area overnight Wednesday; the IDF downed one drone and lost contact with the second, reporting no casualties. The IDF stated these strikes are responses to ceasefire violations and attempts to harm its forces.

Israeli intelligence indicates that dozens of Hezbollah operatives and officers from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps are currently trapped in a fortified underground complex at the ridge. While Israel has avoided a rapid assault to prevent regional escalation with Iran, it has maintained an offensive in the region since March 2. These hostilities persist despite a US-mediated framework agreement from June 26 that proposed an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory in exchange for the disarmament of Hezbollah and the deployment of the Lebanese army.
