Israel Defense Forces Kill Hamas Commanders in Gaza Strikes

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Shin Bet executed a series of counterterrorism operations across the Gaza Strip on September 14 and 15, 2026, killing several high-ranking militants. Targeted individuals included Ahmed al-Batech Abu Osama, commander of the Hamas Gaza City Brigade, and Rafat Abu Zamar, a company commander who trained operatives for the October 7 massacre. The IDF also eliminated Muhammad Khader Fahmi Aghour, a weapons production operative, and Mohsen Farid Said Abu Hadaf, a Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket squad commander.

While the IDF maintains these strikes were necessary to remove immediate threats and respond to systematic ceasefire violations, other reports indicate significant civilian casualties. In Gaza City's Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, a double drone strike killed 15-year-old Mohammed al-Zinati and civil defense worker Sharif Labad, with the second strike hitting first responders. The Ministry of Health of Palestine reports that ceasefire violations since October 2025 have resulted in 1,372 Palestinian deaths.

International pressure is mounting as the IDF continues to target weapons facilities and laboratories. UN human rights chief Volker Turk has called for investigators to enter Gaza to gather evidence of potential war crimes, while Doctors Without Borders accused Israeli forces of disregarding the safety of humanitarian personnel. These escalations occur despite a US-backed ceasefire and a rejected disarmament framework proposed by President Trump's Board of Peace.
