DHS Reports 1,600 Percent Increase in Assaults on ICE Officers

The Department of Homeland Security reported a 1,649 percent increase in assaults against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers under the Trump administration compared to a similar period under the Biden administration. Data shows 647 assaults occurred between January 20, 2025, and September 20, 2026, whereas only 37 were recorded between January 20, 2021, and September 20, 2022.

Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin attributed the violence to hateful rhetoric from sanctuary politicians. He cited specific attacks in Minneapolis, Houston, and Los Angeles, as well as shootings at a detention center in Alvarado, Texas, and a sniper attack at a Dallas facility. White House border czar Tom Homan added that threats against agents rose by over 6,000 percent and vehicle assaults increased by 1,300 percent, blaming media misinformation for emboldening attackers.

These reports follow expanded detention and deportation operations that have faced strong opposition from Democratic lawmakers. DHS specifically cited Governor Tim Walz and Representative Jasmine Crockett for their criticisms of the agency, which officials claim have contributed to a climate of non-compliance and violence.
