Louisiana Taxpayers Have Until Sept. 4 to Claim $17 Million

The Louisiana Department of Revenue has set a September 4, 2026, deadline for taxpayers to claim more than $17.1 million in state income tax refunds. The department sent notice letters in July to 22,751 individuals and businesses warning that these funds would be transferred to the state treasurer's office under state law if left unclaimed.

Eligible taxpayers can secure their funds by submitting a voucher provided in the notice letter or by providing their information through the department's official website. The agency will issue paper checks to those who meet the Friday deadline.

Funds not claimed by the cutoff will be transferred to the Unclaimed Property Division of the Louisiana State Treasurer. While the money remains the property of the taxpayers after the transfer, the retrieval process will change. Taxpayers who miss the deadline must then file a claim through the state treasurer's unclaimed property website rather than the Department of Revenue.
