iFixit Awards Apple iPhone Duo 5 Out of 10 Repairability
Repair specialist iFixit gave Apple's first folding phone a 5/10 repairability score while highlighting potential design flaws in the inner display.
Repair specialist iFixit awarded the iPhone Duo, the first folding phone from Apple, a provisional repairability score of 5 out of 10. The teardown praised the device's internal layout and battery removal system but identified significant concerns regarding the inner display. iFixit hypothesized that a central support bar in the hinge may create a stress point on the screen, potentially explaining reports from early buyers of screen cracks and bright lines appearing shortly after purchase.
Apple is offering replacement units to some affected owners, though out-of-warranty repairs for the inner display are priced at $999, or approximately Rs 1,49,900 in India. The device features a single-layer logic board, a departure from the stacked boards used in previous iPhone models, and a matte nano-texture finish designed to hide the screen crease.
Dust tests conducted by iFixit showed the iPhone Duo collects less debris than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8. However, particles still reached the hinge, which resulted in a crunching sound during operation.
