Visa Launches Intelligent Commerce Connect for AI Agent Payments

Visa Inc. introduced Intelligent Commerce Connect to enable AI agents to securely execute payments and purchases on behalf of consumers and businesses.

Visa Inc. launched Intelligent Commerce Connect in April 2026 to establish a standardized infrastructure for agentic commerce. The solution serves as a network and protocol-agnostic on-ramp, allowing AI agents to perform payment initiation, tokenization, and authentication through the Visa Acceptance Platform. The system supports both Visa and non-Visa cards and is compatible with several agent protocols, including the Machine Payments Protocol and Universal Commerce Protocol.

The platform enables AI agents to compare prices, select merchants, and complete purchases using stored credentials while adhering to user-defined spending caps and risk rules. For merchants, the service makes product catalogs and pricing discoverable within AI environments. The tool is currently being piloted with partners including Amazon Web Services, Aldar, Diddo, Highnote, Mesh, Payabli, and Sumvin, with a broader rollout expected later in 2026.

Following the launch, Nevermined integrated Visa Intelligent Commerce with Coinbase's x402 payment protocol and VGS vault infrastructure. This integration allows AI agents to autonomously purchase digital goods and services, such as single articles or dataset queries, by bypassing human-centric checkout forms. Users can register Visa cards and set budget limits and merchant restrictions to maintain control over autonomous spending.
