House Foods Group Inc. is considering the sale of Ichibanya Co., the operator of CoCo Ichibanya, which is the largest curry rice chain in Japan. The parent company currently holds a 51% stake in the business and confirmed it is weighing various options, including the potential privatization of the restaurant chain.
Following the announcement, Ichibanya shares jumped 16% in Tokyo, raising the company's market value to ¥174.2 billion, or approximately $1.1 billion. CoCo Ichibanya maintains a significant global footprint with nearly 1,500 locations across Japan, India, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Market analysts indicate that the potential sale could attract private equity firms. Such a transition is viewed as an opportunity for the chain to enter a new phase of business growth.
