Philippine House Resumes Review of 7.2 Trillion Peso Budget
The House of Representatives of the Philippines resumed deliberations on the 2027 National Expenditure Program following weather-related delays.
The House of Representatives of the Philippines resumed deliberations on Monday, August 24, 2026, regarding the 2027 National Expenditure Program. The proposed budget totals 7.2 trillion pesos, or approximately 116.6 billion U.S. dollars.
Committee hearings originally began on August 17 but were suspended last week due to heavy monsoon rains and flooding across Metro Manila and several provinces. Current evaluations focus on the spending plans of the Department of Justice, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Science and Technology, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
House Speaker Faustino Dy III stated that the proposed budget will undergo strict scrutiny. House leaders have established a 53-day timeline to approve the General Appropriations Bill by October.
