Sudan Violence Kills 20 Civilians and Displaces Thousands

Violence across Sudan has caused significant civilian casualties and mass displacement this week. In Geisan, Blue Nile state, clashes on Tuesday killed more than 20 civilians and forced approximately 2,500 people to flee, with some crossing the border into Ethiopia.

Simultaneously, the state capital of El Obeid in North Kordofan faced multiple waves of drone strikes on Wednesday. The city has seen an influx of 15,000 families over the last three weeks, which has strained displacement sites and basic services.

The United Nations is calling for urgent aid access and the protection of civilian infrastructure. The organization noted that the humanitarian appeal for Sudan is only 41 percent funded, having received 1.2 billion U.S. dollars of the required 2.9 billion.
