India Seeks Safety of Seafarers After Black Sea Ship Attacks
The Indian government is coordinating the safety of seafarers aboard the MV AMIR1 following a series of attacks on commercial vessels in the Black Sea.
The Embassy of India in Ukraine is prioritizing the safety and security of Indian seafarers aboard the vessel MV AMIR1. The embassy confirmed it is maintaining constant contact with relevant authorities to monitor the situation, though officials have not disclosed the number of crew members involved or the specific nature of the incident.
This development follows a series of dangerous incidents for Indian nationals in the Black Sea region. On Monday, the Ministry of External Affairs summoned Ukrainian Ambassador Oleksandr Polishchuk to express serious concern over a strike on the MV OMORFI that killed an Indian seafarer. Additionally, the Indian Embassy reported that the MV Ragnar was struck at the port of Odesa; two of the four Indian crew members are confirmed safe, while the status of the other two remains unknown.
India has condemned recent attacks on commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure in the region. The Ministry of External Affairs emphasizes that commercial shipping and seafarers must not be targeted under any circumstances, citing the scale of India's seafaring community.
