India Sets August Deadlines for Taxes and Monetary Policy

The Indian government and Reserve Bank of India establish critical deadlines for income tax filings and interest rate decisions throughout August 2026.

India faces several regulatory and financial deadlines in August 2026. The Government of India requires taxpayers filing ITR-3 or ITR-4 forms who are not subject to tax audits, including small business owners and freelancers, to submit their returns by August 31 to avoid penalties of up to Rs 5,000.

Parallel to tax deadlines, the Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee will convene from August 3 to August 5. The committee will determine interest rates and liquidity levels, decisions that are expected to influence home loan EMIs and fixed-deposit returns.

Private sector changes and infrastructure updates also occur this month. Axis Bank will reduce benefits for its Magnus for Burgundy card effective August 28, which includes increasing the Dynamic Currency Conversion markup to 2 per cent and ending specific reward points. Additionally, Indian Railways launched a token-based system for Tatkal ticket bookings at reservation counters on August 1 to manage passenger congestion.
